Drop-Stitch 2.0 — Aquafarer Next Generation Core Material for Inflatable Boards

Stronger. Lighter. Stiffer.

Aquafarer R&D has developed Drop-Stitch 2.0, a next-generation core material that increases board rigidity by 25% while reducing overall weight by 10% compared to standard drop-stitch construction.

The innovation comes from a denser thread count — 8,000 threads per square meter versus the industry standard of 12,000 — Combined with a new high-tensile PVC formulation developed in partnership with a German materials supplier.

“Drop-stitch construction has been the gold standard for inflatable boards for a decade,” said the Aquafarer R&D director. “Drop-Stitch 2.0 is a genuine advancement that closes the performance gap with hard boards while maintaining all the portability advantages of inflatable designs.”

The new core material will debut in the SUP Tour 12 and a forthcoming premium touring model. Boards built with Drop-Stitch 2.0 can operate at higher pressures (up to 18 PSI) and exhibit less flex under heavy loads.

Production tooling for Drop-Stitch 2.0 has been installed at the Aquafarer manufacturing facility, with first production units expected to ship in Q4 2026.
